Since 1992, Gonzalo Muñoz is the Trade Commissioner
at the Canadian Embassy in Santiago, Chile, responsible for business
development in the Mining, Aerospace & Defence, Advanced Manufacturing,
Chemical Products & Petrochemicals, Ocean Technologies, Plastics and
Financial Services sectors. Mr. Muñoz has gained previous private experience
in consulting engineering with a company from the United Kingdom and as a
Senior Advisor at the Ministry of National Defence of Chile.
He is a graduated geographer from Universidad
Católica de Chile since 1982, earned a Master's Degree in Political Science
from Universidad de Chile in 1987 and a Post-Graduate Degree in Defence
Studies from Chile's Defence College (Academia Nacional de Estudios
Políticos y Estratégicos) in 1991.
He has gained large experience while working for the
Embassy in Santiago, promoting business between Canada and Chile, developing
exports of Canadian goods and services, which are key to Canada's trade
development in the region and also assisting Canadian investors into Chile.
Canada is the largest foreign investor in Chile's mining sector and an
important investor in other sectors of the Chilean economy. During this
period of time he has participated in various business training courses in
Canada. At this position, he has twice been nominated for the "Ken Sunquist
Award for Service Excellence in International Trade" (last in 2016).
He is a Board member of the Canadian Institute of
Mining and Metallurgy, Los Andes Branch and a member of the Prospectors and
Developers Association of Canada.
