Alan joined the Canadian federal public service in late 2002 with the Department of National Defence (DND). Within DND's International and Industry Programs branch, Alan worked to advance Canada's international defence materiel relationships. In this context, he was Canada's representative to a number of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) working groups, and served as Canada's representative on the Board of Directors for NATO's Maintenance and Supply Organization. Alan also was the department's representative on the industry-led Canadian NATO Industry Advisory Group (NIAG), which explored ways to improve transatlantic industrial cooperation amongst NATO members, including specific joint initiatives with the United States NIAG. In his role as Canadaís representative to NATO's senior level Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD), he also supported the Assistant Deputy Minister-Materiel, and lead efforts to develop a defence industrial strategy and a vendor performance program.

In 2010, Alan joined ACOA and the Industrial Benefits team as the aerospace lead. Since joining ACOA, he has supported the regionís A&D sector by facilitating business-to-business partnerships and leading advocacy efforts to position regional interests within the national context. Alan continues to leverage Canadaís Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) policy to support regional firms, while serving on a number of joint government and industry working groups.

Alan holds a Master of Arts degree in Political Studies from the University of Manitoba (Canada).
